Learn to Drive in Portsmouth

FIRST STEP
The first thing to do in becoming a learner driver in Portsmouth is to obtain a provisional driving licence. If you already  have appropriate forms of identification such as a passport, you may fill in the forms online. You are allowed to obtain your  licence before your 17th birthday and so can take your first lesson on your birthday.

DRIVING THEORY TEST
An important step towards getting a full licence is to pass your theory test. Many learners learn for their theory while they are taking practical driving lessons. As well as the computer based questions you need to pass the hazard test. You have to achieve a pass in both sections at the same test. If you don’t pass at one you need to attempt both parts again.

PRACTICAL DRIVING LESSONS
The majority of people who learn to drive in the UK have one lesson each week. But some people learning become aware  that two or more lessons per week is easier as they are more likely to remember  if they don’t have to wait a week between lessons. The time you have to wait for the practical test can vary but the Driving Standards Agency target waiting time for practical tests is 6 weeks. However it's important that you do not go for test before your instructor says you are ready. The UK pass rate is approximately 50% and the Driving Standards Agency have made it clear that a major reason in test candidates failing the practical driving test is that they were not ready for it.
